Word of Big Thanks

This project has only started. Unfortunately, it does not look as if democracy and peace will arrive in Burma overnight. Until that day, Burma Voices will be collecting stories from Burmese people.

Anywhere in the world.

Anyone.

Any opinion.

Any Voice.

The Voices speaking out now are only the beginning. Burma Voices will grow. Into one Big Voice that cannot be denied. That screams for change. And liberation. And peace. And a normal life in freedom and without fear.

Burma Voices would not have been possible without the help of many people. Some of them are mentioned below.

We greatly respect the people who wanted to talk to us and lend their Voices to the free world. They are brave and courageous for having done so and it is our hope that many people will hear their Voices and encourage others to read their stories and do something to enable change in Burma. Thank you very much for your participation, our dear friends.

A big ‘chezutinbadeh’ goes to Ashin Issariya (King Zero), whose endless network of contacts and silent organisational skills enabled many conversations. Without his support – almost always behind the scenes – we would not have met many of these people to begin with. Thank you Uzin, for your support and motivation!

Burma Voices would not have been possible without the help of Ashin Kovida. As a tireless interpreter and motivator he encouraged me to meet everybody and listen to their stories. He would call me at the strangest times, telling me to get ready because someone wanted to speak to us. His humor and sharpness put people at ease and made many a difficult situation more easy to bear. Burma Voices would not be here without you, Pong Pong.

Thank you very very much, Matthijs and Peter and others from Het Redactielokaal en Control Magazine for enabling this website and for your sponsorship. My computer skills do not reach much further than googling the internet, so all credits for the presentation of the Voices on this website go to you! Thanks to you, our Burmese Voices are now speaking to the whole world!

And thank you, listener. Thank you for visiting this website. Thank you for being interested in this subject. Thank you for your attention.

Just do not forget: now that you have read the Voices, you are a Witness.

Please do not turn your back.

But do something.

Act now

“If you are neutral in a situation of injustice,

you have chosen to side with the oppressor.”

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
